We don’t identify people with what they don’t believe or what they are not. How often do Christians introduce themselves as non-Buddhists?
What does being a non-Buddhist say about someone? We know what non-Buddhists associate themselves with, yet we have no clue what they associate themselves with.
Similar to non-Buddhist, the word atheist says nothing about one’s identity. Therefore, the phrase new atheism is as meaningful as new non-Buddhism.
One’s identity can be among others atheist humanist, atheist secularist, or Buddhist. Identity is what you are, not what you are not.
That depends, of course, on whether the person you ran over was religious or not.
